Somewhere in the beginning of 1999 Sjaak van der
Kroft told me he was going to buy a 1464 to restore it.
The picture at the right shows the state of the
jukebox was in when it was bought.
A nice chrome job has been done on the cap above
the window:
The cabinet
Also the side bumbers got a brand new chrome
layer:
The cabinet has been
changed from black to white, and also the front panel has been
changed.
in the first instance the cabinet was covered
with the original veneer type, but as Sjaak thought white
would fit better in his interior, he decided to paint it white.
But the wood grain is still visible.
Getting the interior done
Then the power assembly was mounted in the upper
left corner
First of all the interior was recovered and all
devices repainted in grey, at the left you'll see the cash box
housing fitted back at the right bottom of the interior.
The front panel
In the front pannel two new Jensen speakers were
mounted and the selection pannel was reinstalled
Recovering the mechanism
This is the magazine, containing 60 records, inside
the wheel you'll find the switches to trigger the reversal of the
wheel (to change from odd to even selections and backwards)
This picture shows the gripper
section, just a little left of this section you'll find the
switches to start / terminate the movement of the gripper and the
turntable mechanism.
Next picture shows the notch which directs the
gripper arm into a right or left movement thus making it possible
to play odd or even selections.
The pin below the notch is
mechanically switched by the magazine itself.
At the left of the gripper
mechanism you'll see the geneva gripper section
On the left you see the magazine motor, and on
the right the magazine itself.
Look at the swivel lock-in device: it holds the records in place
when they are at the bottom of the revolving drum.
The motor, which activates the magazine, is
exactly the same as the one which operates the gripper.
Next picture shows the gripper motor, which is
placed at the left side of the turntable.
Also notice the bundle of microswiches which
activate the reversal of the magazine and the direction of the
gripper arm (even/odd selection movement)
The record couter is mounted in front of the
gripper motor.
(Left)
Mounting plate for turntable and idler wheel
Just below the mounting plate you'll see the turntable motor, and
the selector unit with the carriage assembly (which detects the
selected records) in top position.
Next picture shows the mechanism
after restoration, a fine job !
In september 2000 Sjaak
finally got hold of his window and was he able to close his
restoration project (see also picture on top):
